For nearly 2,500 years, The Scroll of Esther has echoed through the generations—read aloud each spring on the holiday of Purim, passed from parents to children across continents and centuries. But beneath the surface of this ancient, mythic tale lies something deeper: a layered story where feminine power survives under patriarchal edits, where myth and memory collide, and where blood and survival live side by side.

In this groundbreaking new translation, Rav Jericho brings Esther’s story into the light of our present moment—with raw honesty, reverence, and a refusal to look away. The language holds close to the original Hebrew, while reshaping the frame: free from patriarchal assumptions, conscious of inherited trauma, and attuned to the disturbing resonances between ancient text and today’s political violence.

This is 15 page translation is an invitation to listen differently, to speak honestly, and to imagine new stories for a future rooted in peace and justice for all people.

The ancestors told many mythic stories about Esther. Almost two and a half thousand years ago, in the 4th century BCE, the ancestors wrote some of their favorite Esther stories down in The Scroll of Esther.

This was an era in which men were consolidating their power in society, and in The Scroll of Esther we see the agendas of men layered over stories of feminine power— but feminine power is still there, waiting for us to find and celebrate it.

Judaism has always been an evolving faith, and the Haggadah an evolving text. In our family’s guidebook for the Pesach seder we try to peel back layers of text to explore this ancient story of freedom by questioning everything, examining a plurality of perspectives, celebrating resonant Jewish wisdom, and deepening our compassion for others.

We created this Haggadah for our young children. We hope that it helps you and your loved ones connect with ancestral Jewish wisdom so that you may experience a meaningful and joyful seder.
